This set of ten lessons details God’s instructions to the newly-freed Israelites and their rebellion and unbelief towards God.
You have just finished studying the Ten Commandments. God gave the Israelites some basic commandments so they would know how to live. These rules would help them walk in God's way. Doing things God's way is always best. It is the way to make life work for you.
But God wasn't finished with giving the Israelites some directions. They needed to Build a Firm Foundation in their new lives. Remember they had been slaves for a long time. They had forgotten how to be holy and special. So the first theme of this book is God's instructions for being holy. God needed to teach the Israelites about resting on the Sabbath, the sabbatical years, and the Jubilee year. God need to teach them how to make things right with Him when they sinned. There was a right way and a wrong way to approach God. God spent a lot of time and gave many details about this. We'll talk about the construction of the Tabernacle and the priestly garments in “The Tabernacle is Built,” “The Most Holy Place,” and “Priestly Garments.”
The second theme of this book deals with the Israelites' rebellion against God. First we'll talk about how “Giving is Good.” The Israelites did that very well. But they did not trust God, even though God provided everything they needed. Lesson two, “The Golden Calf,” shows how the people made an idol to worship. “On to The Promised Land” highlights complaints about hardships and food. Even Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, as you'll learn in “Expect to Respect.” The final lesson in this book, “Two Great Heroes,” tells about the Israelites' refusal to trust God to give them the land He had promised them.
Come along on the journey. Let's explore and learn how each of these lessons fits in your own life and relationship with God. How Firm is Your Foundation?
With love,
