This set of ten lessons examines each of the Ten Commandments.
Dear Juniors,
Welcome! As you explore these next ten lessons, I pray that you will get a better understanding of God's Ten Commandments. God's commandments will help you see how much you need the Savior, Jesus Christ. They will also help you to succeed in whatever you do. To help you begin thinking about God's commandments, I want to ask you some questions.
Why do you obey your parents? Do you follow their rules and do what they tell you because you are afraid of being punished? Or do you do the right thing because you love them? Don't you hate it when your mom and dad are disappointed in you? Sometimes you follow their rules just to please them.
It is the same thing with God. As we come to love God, we aren't obeying His commands because we think He'll punish us if we don’t, although God will punish those who break His laws. But we obey God's rules because we love Him. We hate it when He is disappointed in us. We want to please our Heavenly Father.
Your parents know that sometimes you have a hard time following all of their rules. They know you want to do things your way. So why do your parents make rules for you? Because they want you to learn how this life works. Your mom and dad love you so much that they only want the best for you. In the same way, God gives us commandments because He loves us so much. He really wants only the best for us. When we obey God's commands, life works so much better for us.
As you get older, it gets easier to follow Mom and Dad's rules. In fact, their rules become a part of you. You don't even want to break most of them any more. Keeping God's commands is very much the same. The more you obey God, the less you want to disobey. The Holy Spirit works with you, telling you, "This is the way; walk in it" (Isaiah 30:21).
As you work through these lessons, remember that God loves you so much more than even your mom and dad do. His rules are the road to a blessed life.
I hope you've got your walking shoes on. Let's get started.
