This set of ten lessons teach about Joseph’s family in Egypt, the birth of Moses, and God’s rescue of the Israelites from the oppressive slavery under Pharaoh.
Dear Intermediates,
Have you ever wondered who your ancestors are? Have you ever wondered why one nation seems blessed and is wealthy beyond words, while another is poverty stricken and disease ridden? Is this because the people in one nation are better, more righteous than the Third World countries where people are starving? Could it be that the people in the wealthy nations are smarter than the nations who have such deprivation? Could there be another reason?
After Moses received the Ten Commandments at Mt. Sinai and before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, Moses summoned all of the people to instruct them. Deuteronomy 7:6-7 says, "For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. The LORD didn't set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the people, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the LORD brought you out by a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
Now we know that God chose the small nation of Israel, loved them, and redeemed them from slavery because of His oath to their forefathers. This said nothing about them being more righteous or better than any Third World country. He chose Israel to be His people. The lessons in this book explore the possibility that the United States and Great Britain could at least be a type of the nation God calls Israel. Our nations have been abundantly blessed. As you study your lessons you'll see other possible ways that our two nations seem to fit the things that will happen in the "later days."
There's a fascinating story beginning with Lesson Three where God cals Moses from the burning bush and gives him a job to do that he never wanted. Learn how God equipped him with someone to speak for him, backs his word up with ten awesome plagues, and gives him precise instructions each step of the way. Why do you think God did this? This drama will keep you hanging on the edge of your seat as it unfolds with each successive lesson.
You'll learn the danger of being arrogant and stubborn. You'l see what it cost Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, and his people for him to Flip Flop. You can learn a lot from 20/20 Hindsight that will help you in your walk with Christ.
Time and again, stubborn Pharaoh said he would do one thing and then reneged on his word. Did this pay? Learn what it cost him. But at last, Pharaoh Won't Renege and The Trek Began. How many people do you think headed out to the Promised Land under the same full moon you see each year on The Night to Be Much Observed? Were those people at all like you, or were they kind of like people from another planet?
What does all of this mean to you? Carefully read each lesson before class and your Daily Devotional each day. Come prepared to participate. Many movies have been made about the stories in this book. But haven't you found that the book is always better than the movie? Read your lessons and see.
