The Lesson

Do you love your home? It's where your mommy and daddy live. You have a nice soft bed that you sleep in every night. Your home has a kitchen where Mommy cooks good meals for you to eat. Your home has a bathroom and other rooms.

The people of Israel were slaves in Egypt. God told Moses and Aaron to go tell Pharaoh to "Let my people go." God did some miracles so that the Israelites could be freed. They left Egypt one night - they left their homes. They had to live in tents or homes made of tree limbs. Do you think they got wet when it rained? Do you think they would rather have lived in a home like you live in?

God told Moses to lead the Israelites to the Promised Land. But for 40 long years, they walked through the wilderness and lived in tents without a bathroom or kitchen. God says we should remember this at the Feast of Tabernacles every year. We leave our nice homes and live in a condo, motel, or tent. This helps us remember that Israel lived in tents or booths. It also helps us to remember that our bodies don’t last forever. We look for the Kingdom of God - our Promised Land - to come on this earth. It will last forever!

The Kingdom of God will be a happy place to live. There won't be any mean animals. Have you ever seen a dog and cat sleep together in the same bed or basket? In God's Kingdom, the wolf and the lamb will lie down together. Cows will graze with bears. The lion will eat grass like a cow. All animals will be tame in God's Kingdom. Nothing will hurt you. Everyone will know about God and our Friend Jesus. Think about this. It should make you have a Happy Feast!

Materials Needed

Bible, YEA Students' and Teacher's books, attendance and memory verse charts, songbook, music player, CD or cassette tape, table, branches to make a booth, spray bottle, water, green construction paper, scissors, glue, crayons

Preparation

Children need visual representations to grasp things they don’t understand or for which they have no frame of reference. Pictures, posters, and activities will help broaden their life experiences. Learning about God's care for His people is a first step to building a lifetime relationship with Him.Today's lesson teaches that God took care of the Israelites and took them to the Promised Land. This will help the children believe that God will take care of them and take them to His Kingdom which will be a more peaceful and happier place than our world today.

Before class, set up a table to construct a "booth" around. As children arrive, have them help you make a booth for today's lesson from the tree branches you brought. It's okay to leave gaps between the branches in this booth.

When planning for the activity, either have the majority of the cutting and assembling done prior to class, or find some extra helpers for completing this activity.

Review Questions

1. What animals will be tame in the Kingdom of God?

2. How many people will know about God and our Friend Jesus?

3. Will God give you a new body that will last forever in His Kingdom?
