BROOK - a small stream of water
CAMP - a group of tents or temporary dwellings
Ahab was a very bad king. He did more bad things than any other king. So, God sent Elijah to give Ahab a warning. Elijah said, “I serve the God who lives. There will not be any rain until I say so.” Without rain, fruits and vegetables wouldn’t grow. People would run out of food. This made Ahab mad.
God told Elijah to go away for a while. He sent Elijah to a little brook. There was water for Elijah to drink. But, what would he eat?
Do you remember how God fed the Israelites in the desert? First He sent down bread from heaven. All the Israelites had to do was pick it up from the ground. Then God sent them birds for meat. The Israelites didn’t have to hunt them. The birds landed right in their camp.
God sent birds to Elijah, too. But, these birds were not for him to eat. They were special birds. They carried food to Elijah every day. In the morning birds brought bread and meat. And at night birds brought more bread and meat.
God always takes care of people who love and obey Him. He knows that you need food, clothes, and a warm place to live. So, God gave you a mommy and daddy to take care of you.
He knew what Elijah needed, too. So God sent him some special birds to take care of him.
Sunday - Psalm 37:25
Monday - Psalm 145:15
Tuesday - Ezekiel 16:19

At the end of this lesson, the children will be able to:
1. Explain that God made it stop raining because Ahab was such a bad king.
2. Tell what God used to feed Elijah and give him water to drink.
3. State that God takes care of them by giving them a mommy and daddy.

Some children are carefree, never worrying about their needs. They are confident that when they are hungry, food will be readily available. Other children, however, worry about all kinds of things. Possibly they have overheard their parents talking about bills and a lack of money. Some may even be among the millions who suffer deprivation because of poverty.
Help both types of children learn that God cares for them and will meet their needs because He loves them. They can trust God because His love never fails. His resources never diminish. He can use unexpected means to supply our needs, like He did with Elijah. Our God is infinite!
Before you come to class, cut enough plain paper plates in half so each child will have one half. Cut enough plates into six wedges, so each child will have one wedge.
Have Tiny ask the questions.
1. Why did God send Elijah to tell Ahab there wouldn’t be any rain?
2. Why would no rain be such a bad thing?
3. Why did God send Elijah away for a while?
4. How did Elijah get something to drink?
5. How did Elijah get food to eat?
6. Who did God give to take care of you and give you food, clothes, and a place to live?
Give each child 1⁄2 of a paper plate, along with a wedge (see diagram). (1) Help the children tape the wedge to the back of the 1⁄2 plate for the bird’s tail and wings. Color the wings and tail. (2) Place some oyster crackers between two plastic spoons and (3) wrap tape around the handles. (4) Tape the wings onto the handles of the spoons. Allow the children to “fly” their ravens around the room, delivering food to the other children.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for taking care of Elijah. You sent birds to feed him. Thank You for giving me a mommy and daddy to take care of me and give me food, clothes, and a warm place to live. Help me love You and obey You.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
