WISE - knowing a lot of things, including how to make good choices
WISDOM - being wise, being able to make good choices
If you could ask for anything you wanted, and knew you would get it, what would you ask for? Would you ask for a pony? Would you ask for a bike or a scooter? Maybe you’d ask for a new doll or a Spiderman toy.
Solomon was King David’s son. Solomon loved God. He showed it by obeying God’s laws. So, when King David died, Solomon became Israel’s king.
One night Solomon had a dream. The Lord talked to Solomon in his dream. God said, “You can ask for anything you want. I will give it to you.” What do you think Solomon asked for? He was already the king. Do you think he wanted more gold?
Solomon thought about how good God was to his father, King David. God made David king because David loved and obeyed God.
Now Solomon was the king. He wanted to be a good king. He wanted to do things God’s way. So, Solomon asked God to make him wise. He wanted God to show him how to do the right things.
God was very happy with Solomon’s wish. God said, “You didn’t ask to live long. You didn’t ask for money. You didn’t even ask me to get rid of your enemies. I will give you what you asked for.”
But that’s not all God did. God gave Solomon many more things. He made him rich. Solomon was a very great king. And God let him live a long, long time. It pays to do things God’s way!

“The information your child has gleaned from experimenting, observing and seeking answers to her questions gives her the foundation for expanding her knowledge” (“Developing Your Child’s Potential” by the Editors of Time-Life Books).
God, however, has infinite knowledge. Before scientists discovered a vaccine for polio, God had already created the anti-bodies. Before astronomers discovered galaxies beyond our own, God placed the stars and planets in space. “Wisdom and power belong to God” (Job 12:13).
In this lesson, Solomon was aware of his inadequacies. He knew that to be a good king, he needed wisdom far beyond man’s abilities – he needed wisdom from God. All of Solomon’s worldly possessions didn’t add up to the wisdom that only God could give him.
Before you come to class, make two copies of the Memory Game sheet in the center of this book (For larger classes, make more sets). Cut the cards apart along the lines.
Have Tiny ask the questions.
1. Who was Solomon’s daddy?
2. What did God tell Solomon in a dream?
3. What did Solomon ask for?
4. Why do you think Solomon asked God to make him wise?
5. What did God give to Solomon?
Memory Game
Place all the cards on the table, face down. Allow each child to pick two cards. If they pick a matching set, set them aside. If they don’t match, place them back on the table in their original place. Continue choosing cards until all matched pairs have been picked. The winner is the child who has the most matched pairs.

Lead the children in prayer, thanking God for making Solomon wise. Ask God to help the children love and obey Him so they can be wise, too:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for all the good things You gave Solomon. Best of all, You made him wise. Help me know what is best to ask for. And help me love and obey You, like wise King Solomon.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
