TREASURE- something considered of great value, like money or jewels
God led the Israelites through the desert to Mt. Sinai. He reminded Moses and the people of how He brought them out of Egypt. He took them through the Red Sea. He gave them food to eat and water to drink. He brought them to this place so they could worship Him. Now God wanted to talk to Moses. He had a promise for all the Israelites.
One time God talked to Moses from a burning bush. But, this time God led the Israelites to a mountain. Then God told Moses to climb up the mountain. Everyone else had to stay away from the mountain. Even their animals had to stay away.
God made this promise to Moses, "If the people will obey my voice, they shall be my special treasure."
Think about all the wonderful things that belong to God - the sun and stars, gold and diamonds, beautiful mountains and gardens, and all different kinds of animals. But, God said people who obey Him are the best treasure of al!
Clouds with thunder and lightning covered Mt. Sinai. God's voice spoke to all the Israelites. It was awesome! Would they obey and do what God told them? All the Israelites gave the same answer. "We will do everything the Lord has said."
God wants you as part of His great treasure. He wants you to obey and do what He tells you. God doesn't talk to you from burning bushes. He doesn’t even tell you what to do from a mountain or thunder and lightning. God's commands are in His Word, the Bible. Will you obey?

Being the teacher of young children is often very challenging. There may be times when you question whether the children are paying attention and learning anything at all. It is for this reason that teachers often try different styles of teaching - storytelling, acting out lessons, puppets, etc. Some may even rearrange their room to gain an advantage over their active students.
God, and His Son, Jesus, also used different means and methods when communicating with people. In today’s lesson it is pointed out that one time God spoke to Moses in a burning bush; this time He spoke from a cloud-covered mountain, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Use as many techniques and visual aids as you deem necessary to gain the attention of your students and to help them understand, retain, and apply the lesson. But, don't allow the lesson to get lost in the methods.
Before you come to class, place the following items in a jewelry box, small chest, or cardboard box that has been decorated to look like a treasure chest: ring, necklace and other jewelry, some money, perfume, and a picture of your family. Enlarge and make flash cards of the pictures on the pattern page.
To color macaroni, place about three tablespoons of rubbing alcohol inside a Ziplock plastic bag along with enough food coloring to make the macaroni the desired shade. Add macaroni and shake until all has been colored. Spread macaroni on paper towels to thoroughly dry.
1. Use the flash cards and tell how God led the Israelites up to Mt. Sinai.
2. What did God want Moses to do when they got to the mountain?
3. What were all the otherIsraelites to do at the mountain?
4. What did God say was His most special treasure?
5. What covered the top of the mountain when God spoke to the Israelites?
6. What did the Israelites say they would do?
7. How does God talk to you today?
