God's people were the Israelites. They moved to Egypt many years ago. They went there because there wasn't enough food where they lived. God blessed the Israelites in Egypt. Their families grew big. They had many sheep and cattle. But Pharaoh was afraid there would be more Israelites than Egyptians. So, he made the Israelites work very hard for him.
God saw how hard Pharaoh made His people work and He didn't like it. God loved His people. And, He wanted the Israelites to love and worship Him. So, God chose a man named Moses to help the Israelites.
One day God called to Moses in the desert. God's voice came from a bush that was on fire. He told Moses to go to Egypt and speak to Pharaoh. But, Moses said he wasn't good at talking. So God sent Moses brother, Aaron, to speak for him. This is what God told Moses and Aaron to say: "Let my people go so they can worship me. I want them to hold a feast for me in the desert."
Pharaoh didn't want to let the Israelites go. He said, "Who is this God? And, why should I obey Him?" The Egyptians didn't worship the true God. They worshiped idols that were made by men and they prayed to them. Pharaoh didn't even know who the true God was.
The Lord God is the only true God. He made the heavens, the earth and everything in them. The Israelites believed and worshiped the true God. The Lord our God loves His people. He took care of the Israelites. and He will take care of you.

"From age 2 to 4 the average child's vocabulary increases from 150 words to 1500 words. This is a tenfold increase in the span of two years. Most of these new words are names of things" (Teaching Preschoolers by Ruth Beechick). As you teach these young children Bible stories, you will constantly be adding new words to their vocabulary. Be sure you explain any new words and those in the Words to Know list in terms the children will understand.
Before you come to class, trace your hand on art foam, and cut enough hands for each child to have two. Cut out pieces of corrugated board 6" × 6" square (one per child). In the center of each square cut a 3" long slit. (Do not cut completely through the cardboard.)
1. Why did God want Pharaoh to let the Israelites go?
2. How many true Gods are there? Who is the true God?
3. What did Pharaoh and the Egyptians worship? Could their idols help them? Why?
4. What did Pharaoh say when Moses told him to let the people go?
5. Why can our God hear us and help us?
