OUTDO - do better than someone else
Abraham's servant traveled a long, long way to find a bride for Isaac. Her name was Rebekah. Rebekah said that she would travel the long, long way back to where Isaac lived. Isaac loved Rebekah and they were married.
But, Rebekah and Isaac were sad. They didn’t have any children. Rebekah wanted a little baby to love and to hold. She wanted a baby to sing to. So she prayed and asked God to give her a baby. Isaac prayed for a baby, too. And, God gave them not just one baby, but two! They were twin boys.
Jacob and Esau were very different. Esau was born first. He had lots of hair and was red all over. He loved to be outside. He took care of his father's sheep. He loved to hunt and roam around the countryside. Esau was Isaac's favorite.
Jacob was a quiet boy. He stayed close to his tent. Jacob probably grew vegetables in the garden and his mother around the house. Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite.
These boys were not best friends. They were always trying to outdo each other. They were not always nice to each other.
Jesus is a Friend who sticks closer than a brother. He loves us at all times even when we are not very lovable! He wants you to talk to Him in prayer. He will never leave you. He is better than a brother! God made each one of us different. But, we are all special and important to God.

Preschoolers are beginning to have a widening interest in people outside their immediate family circle. However, the arrival of a newcomer, whether a baby or a classmate, may pose a threat to the security of a young child, causing him to act in an inappropriate manner. Help the children understand that God made each and every one of them. W e are all different and special to Him. And, He commands us to love one another.
As children arrive, involve them in playing with blocks or other toys. Engage them in talking about their own families, naming each member. Discuss their relationship with siblings, what they like to do together, and whether they get along or fight.
Before class, gather enough toilet tissue tubes for each child to have one. Cut fabric scraps into 5" ×5" squares. Cut fabric circles about4" in diameter. Yarn can be cut into short pieces for hair and 7" pieces for the belt. You will need a boy and girl doll or paper figures. (You can use the pattern from Lesson 6 and dress them as boy and girl and as Jacob and Esau).
Enlist some teenagers or other parents to help with today’s activity!!
