FLOCK -a group of sheep living together
HERD - a group of cattle living together
When Abram and Lot first came to the new land, they all lived together. But their sheep had many lambs and their cows had many baby calves. Soon there was not enough room for all their sheep and cows. So, Abram told Lot to choose where he wanted to live. Lot chose to live in the city of Sodom.
The people who lived in Sodom were very bad. They didn't love or serve God. They thought bad thoughts. They did bad things. And the way they lived made God very sad. It made Him so sad that God decided to destroy the city.
God sent two angels to tell Lot to get out of the city. They told Lot that God was going to send fire from heaven. Everything in Sodom would be burned up. Even the bad people of Sodom would die.
Lot hated to leave his home and all his things. So the angels took Lot, his wife, and two daughters by their hands. They hurried them out of Sodom. The angels told them to run to the mountains and not look back.
But, Lot's wife didn't obey. She loved her home and all of her things. When she smelled the smoke from the fires she looked back to see what was happening. Lot's wife showed that she loved her things more than she loved God. So, God turned her into a big salt block!
Lot and his daughters were safe because they obeyed. But, Lot's wife didn't obey. She didn't do what God told her to do, so she was punished.

Children learn and explore the world around them through their senses. Seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting help children discover, explore and identify. Giving them opportunities to develop these senses will make their learning experience more fun and will help focus their attention on the subject at hand.
God's grace and mercy are clearly demonstrated in today's lesson. Upon hearing of God’s intention to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham began pleading with God to spare the cities. He was concerned for his nephew, Lot, who lived Sodom. God agreed that if ten righteous people could be found, He would not destroy Sodom. But alas, there were not even ten who loved and feared God to be found. So the God of grace and mercy made a way to rescue Lot and his family.
Before class, copy and enlarge the cow and sheep patterns (see next page) onto construction paper. Make at least ten sheep and ten cows. Cut out the animals and fold the bottom tab back to make the figures stand up.
1. Why did Lot move away from Abram?
2. Where did Lot go to live?
3. What were the people of Sodom like?
4. What did God send to destroy the city of Sodom?
5. Who led Lot and his family out of Sodom?
6. What happened to Lot's wife? Why?
