VACATION - a time of rest from your work
NATION - a community of people
Long, long ago there was a man named Abram. One day God said to Abram, "Start Packing!" Now, I'm sure Abram wondered where he was going.
God told Abram to move away from his family and friends. God was going to lead Abram to a new land. God had great plans for Abram. Abram's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would become great nations.
Abram was so excited. He went to his wife, Sarai, and told her to Start Packing! Just think how Sarai must have felt. Do you think she was excited? She probably asked, "Where are we going?" Abram said, "I don't know. We must trust God. He will show us the way."
So, Abram and Sarai packed all their clothes. They left their home. They left their family and friends. Abram and Sarai did what God told them and started on their trip. They lived in a tent instead of their nice home for the rest of their lives. Abram and Sarai traveled a long way. God made Abram very rich in cattle, silver, and gold. God showed Abram the land that He would give to his great-grandchildren. It was beautiful. Abram was so happy that he built an altar and thanked God.
Abram obeyed and trusted God to keep His promise. God always keeps His promises.

Preschool-age children have identifiable characteristics and needs. They are naturally curious about their surroundings. They are, therefore, eager to explore and discover God’s world. Their understanding of history and geography are very limited, so these lessons must be related to their own world of experiences.
These experiential lessons provide numerous opportunities for the children to learn by doing, sharing experiences, talking about what they have learned, and accomplishing hands-on tasks. Every portion of the lesson, including the activity, is important to a well-rounded learning experience.
Before class, cut the following pictures from magazines: man, woman, house, suitcase, camel, car, tent, hotel, sheep and cows. Attach a strip of butcher's paper on the wall of your classroom, low enough for the children to reach.
Place the magazine pictures on a table. As you ask the following questions, have the children choose a picture that will answer the question, and
glue it on the time travel line.
1. Who were the man and woman that God spoke to? (Abram and Sarai.)
2. Where did Abram and Sarai live? (House.)
3. What did God tell Abram to do? (Start Packing! picture of suitcase.)
4. What did they load their belongings onto? (Camels.)
5. Where did Abram and Sarai stay while they traveled? (Tent.)
6. What did the new land that God would give them look like? (Grass, trees, river.)
