CREATED - made something out of nothing

The Lesson

Long, long ago, before anything, there was God. Everywhere He looked it was dark. God looked out at the darkness and decided to place something in it. He spoke a word and the world appeared. Then God made light and divided it into day and night. God liked what He had made.

Next, God made water and put it on the earth. He put clouds in the sky. Everything needs water to live. That is why God made the water before He made anything else.

After that, God began to make the earth beautiful. He used some of the water and made it into lakes. He made great big oceans with salty water. Then He made the rivers and the tall mountains covered with snow. He made the rolling hills. God covered the land with green grass and brightly colored flowers. Finally, He made all kinds of trees. God looked out on all that He had made and said, “It is good!'

God looked out at the dark night sky. He thought it needed something. So He sprinkled stars over the sky. Then He hung the moon to light up the night. He made the bright sun and placed it in the sky to light up the day.

What a wise and wonderful God we have. This is His world!

He made playful dolphins and slippery eels to swim in the oceans. God made great big whales and little tiny minnows. He made the eight-armed octopus and clams with hard shells. He filled the water with critters of al sizes, shapes and kinds. Then God looked at the big blue sky. He started making birds of al different colors. There were red and blue birds. He made green parrots and black crows. It was like God used a box of crayons to color every bird. At the end of the fifth day there was color everywhere!

On the sixth day God started making creatures for the land. He made big animals and small animals. He made fuzzy furry creatures and creepy crawly critters.

There were animals from A to Z. And everything God made was good!

The Lesson

There were creatures in the jungles and forests. God was very happy with everything He had made. But, there was nothing that could think like God could. There was nothing that could talk to Him.

So, God reached down and picked up a hand full of dirt. He made a man out of the dirt. Then God breathed on the man and he came alive! He could walk and talk. He could do al the things you can do. God called the first man Adam.

God put Adam in a beautiful garden. Adam's job was to name al the animals from A to Z. He named the alligator and ape. He named the bear and buffalo. But, not one of these animals could talk to Adam.

God didn't want Adam to be lonely. He took one of Adam's ribs and made a woman out of it. He named her Eve. God gave Adam and Eve everything they would ever need.

God made each one of you. He made every person different. God also takes care of you because He loves you.

WHINE- to complain in a high pitched tone

The Lesson

God spent six days creating the world. He made the sky and everything in it. He made the sun, moon and stars. He made all the grass, flowers and trees. He made all of the animals and birds, the bugs and fish. Then, God made the first people. On the seventh day, God stopped creating things. The Bible says that God rested!

God was not tired. He was finished creating. God made everything that needed to be created. Everything God made was perfect! He didn't make any mistakes. God was done. Now He took time out to look at and think about what He made. He took time to enjoy it.

God was also doing something else. He was teaching us that we need to take time to rest. God knew that people would get tired. So God said the seventh day is the Sabbath. It is a day to rest.

On the Sabbath day people should not work. God gave us the Sabbath day to worship Him. It is the day we come to church and learn about God. We sing songs and pray. We can bring our offerings and say our memory verse. This is al part of worshiping God.

The Sabbath is important to God and for us. It is important to remember to keep the Sabbath day special for God.

Words to Know

APARTMENT BUILDING - building containing a number of living areas

PUNISH - penalty for not obeying

OFFERINGS- gifts of worship

The Lesson

God gave the very first people a special place to live. He made a beautiful garden home for them. There were lots of trees with fruit to eat. God told them they could eat anything in the garden, except the fruit of one tree. But, Adam and Eve didn't obey God. So, God had to punish them. He made Adam and Eve leave their beautiful home. They could never go back to the garden.

God still loved Adam and Eve. He blessed them with two little boys of their own. They named one boy Cain and the other boy Abel. This was the first family.

Adam and Eve taught the boys about God. They taught them to pray and give offerings to Him. They wanted Cain and Abel to obey God.

Cain and Abel were very different. Cain liked to work in the garden. Abel was a shepherd - he took care of the sheep. Abel did what God told him to do. He gave an offering of one of his sheep. Cain gave an offering of vegetables from his garden. When God was pleased with Abel's offering, Cain got angry. Cain just kept disobeying God until God had to punish him too.

God wants you to learn about Him and love Him. He wants you to do the things He tells you in His Word.

FLOOD- an overflowing of water

BANKS - a rise of land along the side of a river

PROTECTION - to keep from danger

The Lesson

One day God looked down from heaven at the world He had made. It was no longer the beautiful place it was when God made it. People were doing all kinds of bad things. God was very unhappy with the people of the world. So He decided to send a great flood of water to cover everything.

God saw that Noah was a good man. He loved God and obeyed Him. God wanted to save Noah and his family from the flood. So He told Noah to do a very strange thing. Noah was to build a really big boat called an ark. But Noah built it where there was no water!

God said that it was going to rain for a very long time. There would be water in the streets, in the fields and in the houses. Finally, water would cover everything!

Noah believed God and obeyed. He chopped down tall trees and cut the logs into boards. Then Noah hammered the boards into place. But, when his neighbors saw it they made fun of Noah. He told the people about the flood God would send, but they didn't believe him. They said he was crazy. Noah just kept on working.

It is always best to obey God's rules. They are for our own good. God's rules are to keep us safe and make us happy.

What a sight it must have been! The huge boat was sitting on dry land. The parade of animals came marching two by two. There were two elephants and two tigers, two giraffes and two hippos. Birds flew in the window. Noah made sure they all had a place to sleep.

Noah's neighbors thought he was crazy. But, Noah was obeying God.

When Noah got to the door of the ark he found that God had shut the door. Now everything would be safe and dry inside. As soon as the door was shut God kept his promise and the rain started falling.

The rain fell harder and harder. The animals heard the sound. Plip, plop, plip, plop. They could smell the rain. Rain drops fell in puddles and on the roof. Crash, bang went the thunder. The animals were all safe inside the ark.

One day the ark began to rock back and forth. This really big boat began to move. It was floating! Noah knew that there must be water all over everything. It was just like God had promised.

The rain kept falling for forty days! Everyone was getting tired of the rain. The animals couldn't run and play. Then, one day the rain stopped. But, the ark was still floating in all that water.

People laughed when Noah told them that God would send rain. They didn't believe him. But, when God makes a promise, He always keeps it!

The Lesson

Dolly Dove had been inside the ark for a whole year. Oh, how she missed the outside world. She missed the clear blue sky. She missed the trees with their green leaves. Most of all, Dolly missed flying!

Before Dolly Dove came into the ark she spent her days flying. She flew up to the tops of the tall trees. She flew to the berry bushes. Dolly missed being outside.

The ark suddenly stopped. Ka-bump! Dolly almost fell out of her nest. Noah went to the window and looked out. All he could see was sky and water.

Noah sent a raven out to look for trees and dry land.

They all waited and waited. But the raven didn't return. So, Dolly said that she would fly out and look around. She flew high up into the sky. She flew and flew. But there was still water everywhere.

Seven days later, Noah sent Dolly out again. This time she saw trees and mountains. She was so excited she picked a small branch and carried it back to Noah in her beak. The water was gone!

God told Noah it was time to leave the ark. Noah built an altar out of stones because he was so happy. He bowed down and thanked God for saving them. We should say "Thank you” to God for all the things He does for us, too.

A Rainbow Reminder

Memory Verse"The rainbow is the sign of my covenant." -Genesis 9:17 (NIrV)

Scriptures

Genesis 9:8-17
Genesis 9:17
Joshua 23:14-16
Psalm 37:5-6
Psalm 86:17
Ezekiel 1:28
2 Corinthians 1:20
Hebrews 6:17-18

Words to Know

COVENANT - an agreement or promise

REMINDER - something to help you remember

The Lesson

At last, it was time for Noah and his family to come out of the ark. The first thing he did was build an altar. The rain and the flood were over. Noah thanked God for saving them from the flood. God loved Noah and his family. God loved the animals. He was giving them a fresh start. God promised Noah that He would never, ever again send such a terrible flood.

God gave Noah something special to help him remember God's promise. God put a beautiful rainbow in the sky to help Noah remember. Sometimes a rainbow looks like someone took a paint brush with all different colors and painted across the sky. That rainbow was God's reminder to Noah. It also reminds you and me that He will never send such a terrible flood to earth again.

When you see the blue in a rainbow, think of the blue sky. God will never send rain to destroy the earth again. The green reminds us of the trees and grass that were covered with water. Yellow makes us think of sunshine that dried up all the water. And red reminds us of Jesus, who died for the bad things we all do.

The rainbow is a sign to help us remember that God always keeps His promises to me and you.
