COVENANT - an agreement or promise
REMINDER - something to help you remember
At last, it was time for Noah and his family to come out of the ark. The first thing he did was build an altar. The rain and the flood were over. Noah thanked God for saving them from the flood. God loved Noah and his family. God loved the animals. He was giving them a fresh start. God promised Noah that He would never, ever again send such a terrible flood.
God gave Noah something special to help him remember God's promise. God put a beautiful rainbow in the sky to help Noah remember. Sometimes a rainbow looks like someone took a paint brush with all different colors and painted across the sky. That rainbow was God's reminder to Noah. It also reminds you and me that He will never send such a terrible flood to earth again.
When you see the blue in a rainbow, think of the blue sky. God will never send rain to destroy the earth again. The green reminds us of the trees and grass that were covered with water. Yellow makes us think of sunshine that dried up all the water. And red reminds us of Jesus, who died for the bad things we all do.
The rainbow is a sign to help us remember that God always keeps His promises to me and you.

The best way to teach children to trust is by being trustworthy. Children learn what they see and experience. They may not know the meaning of the word "trust," but they know which people they can count on to keep their promises.
As you provide for the needs of the children in your class, love them unconditionally and refuse to make promises that you cannot keep, you are preparing the children to put their trust in God. Just as the child trusts you for his care, he can trust God to supply his needs.
This lesson shows us that God is trustworthy. He offers the rainbow as a sign that He would keep His promise to never again destroy the earth with a flood. "God has made a great many promises. They are all Yes because of what Christ has done" (NIrV).
Before you come to class, cut enough fluted coffee filters in half so that each child will have one. Put one-half cup of water into four small plastic containers. Add drops of food coloring to each container of water until the colors are dark. Cover tables with newspaper to soak up spills.
1. Why did Mrs. Clark have a red piece of yarn tied to her finger?
2. How do you think Noah would feel if the sky got cloudy again? Why?
3. What was the promise that God gave to Noah?
4. What did God place in the sky to help Noah remember?
5. What does a rainbow look like?
6. The rainbow was a sign to help us remember what?

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the beautiful sign you gave us in the sky. When I see the rainbow, help me remember that you always keep your promises. You will never again send a terrible flood to destroy the earth. In Jesus' name. Amen.
