PERCH - a high resting place
JOSTLED - shoved roughly
Dolly Dove had been inside the ark for a whole year. Oh, how she missed the outside world. She missed the clear blue sky. She missed the trees with their green leaves. Most of all, Dolly missed flying!
Before Dolly Dove came into the ark she spent her days flying. She flew up to the tops of the tall trees. She flew to the berry bushes. Dolly missed being outside.
The ark suddenly stopped. Ka-bump! Dolly almost fell out of her nest. Noah went to the window and looked out. All he could see was sky and water.
Noah sent a raven out to look for trees and dry land.
They all waited and waited. But the raven didn't return. So, Dolly said that she would fly out and look around. She flew high up into the sky. She flew and flew. But there was still water everywhere.
Seven days later, Noah sent Dolly out again. This time she saw trees and mountains. She was so excited she picked a small branch and carried it back to Noah in her beak. The water was gone!
God told Noah it was time to leave the ark. Noah built an altar out of stones because he was so happy. He bowed down and thanked God for saving them. We should say "Thank you” to God for all the things He does for us, too.

Bible, YEA students' and teacher's books, attendance and memory verse charts, stars, songbook, CD/cassette player and CD/music tape, crayons, eight lunch size paper bags, white construction paper, scissors, glue, yarn
Children are often reminded to say "please" and "thank you. Reminders to use good manners don't always teach the reason we say "thank vou." This lesson about Noah helps the children understand the heart attitude behind why we say thanks to God.
Noah expressed deep gratitude to God for saving his life, his family and the animals. Help the children realize what they can be thankful for. Encourage them to be grateful for small and large things. Point out how being thankful shows our love for God and for each other.
Before you come to class, fill eight lunch size paper bags with crumpled newspaper. Fold over the tops and staple or tape them closed to make "stones" for the altar. Enlarge and copy the dove pattern on white construction paper The pattern can be found on the pattern page ‘A’. Cut ten inch pieces of yarn to be used to hang the dove.
As you ask the review questions, have the children act out their answers.
1. When the ark came to a stop, what did Noah do? (Pretend to look out)
2. What did Noah send out of the ark to see if the water was gone? (Flap arms and pretend to fly)
3. Why did the dove come back to the ark the first time she was sent out. (Pretend to fly)
4. The second time the dove was sent out, what did she do? (Place a green construction paper leaf in their mouth and pretend to fly)
5. What was the first thing Noah did when he left the ark? (Kneel down and bow your head and fold your hands.)
6. What should you do when someone gives you a gift? (Say "Thank you.”)
