God spent six days creating the world. He made the sky and everything in it. He made the sun, moon and stars. He made all the grass, flowers and trees. He made all of the animals and birds, the bugs and fish. Then, God made the first people. On the seventh day, God stopped creating things. The Bible says that God rested!
God was not tired. He was finished creating. God made everything that needed to be created. Everything God made was perfect! He didn't make any mistakes. God was done. Now He took time out to look at and think about what He made. He took time to enjoy it.
God was also doing something else. He was teaching us that we need to take time to rest. God knew that people would get tired. So God said the seventh day is the Sabbath. It is a day to rest.
On the Sabbath day people should not work. God gave us the Sabbath day to worship Him. It is the day we come to church and learn about God. We sing songs and pray. We can bring our offerings and say our memory verse. This is al part of worshiping God.
The Sabbath is important to God and for us. It is important to remember to keep the Sabbath day special for God.

Young children have a limited view of the world. Most believe everything was made by man and for man. In this lesson you will be teaching the children that the Almighty God created everything, not man.
The Sabbath is also part of God's creation. The Creator was familiar with every minute detail of His creation. He had placed within man a need for a time of rest and restoration. Mark 2:27 tells us that the Sabbath was made for man. God provided everything essential for growth and happiness. Man would need rest so God made a day for that specific purpose.
But, the Sabbath was not merely a day of rest for man. God sanctified the Sabbath and hallowed ti as a day of worship (Ezekiel 46:3). Not only is it a day in which no work is to be done, it is day in which our hearts and minds should be focused on our Heavenly Father, the Creator of al things. We can rest in the love and guiding care of the One who made us.
Before class, punch six holes around the edge of enough heavy paper plates so that each child will have one. Cut yarn into various lengths from 8 to 10 inches, giving each child seven pieces of yarn. Enlarge and copy the patterns onto white construction paper. The patterns can be found on the pattern pages B and C.
Using the pictures from the Activity portion of this lesson, help the children review the seven days of creation.
