BELIEVE - to trust it to be true
RISE - to go up
Jesus was getting ready to go to be with His Father. His job here on earth was finished. Now He had another job to do. He would be in heaven sitting next to His Father. That way He could talk to God about His people here on earth.
The disciples were afraid. They didn’t want Jesus to leave them. Jesus told them that He would come back again. He was going to make a place ready for us one day.
Jesus was talking to His disciples. All of a sudden He began to rise up in the clouds. Up, up, up He went. Finally, they couldn’t see Him any more. Instead, the disciples saw two angels standing with them. The angels told them not to be afraid. They said Jesus would come back some day.
It was very important for Jesus to go away and leave His disciples. It was for their own good!

Children’s feelings are often very near the surface, and their actions are often clues to their inner lives. If the child’s physical needs are being met, he will develop a feeling of security and safety. And, as the child begins to feel secure, he will begin to interact with you as the teacher, and with the other children. Your classroom should aid in making sure the physical needs are met. Restroom facilities should be nearby. The teacher should meet the children as they arrive, and make them feel welcome. Depending on the time that your class meets, it may be a good idea to provide a light snack and something to drink for the children.
This lesson about the ascension of Christ, may leave the children feeling abandoned. Careful attention must be given to reassure them that they are not alone. He left His Holy Spirit here to minister to us. Jesus went away for a reason. He went to prepare a place for us to be with Him. He is in heaven talking to the Father about our needs.
You may want to cut out pictures of children in school, playing, coloring or sitting, from magazines to be used to introduce this lesson. Ask the children how many of them go to preschool or daycare. Show the pictures of some activities that take place there.
You may want to cover your table with newspaper to protect it from the paint used in the activity.

Dear Father, thank you that Jesus went up, up, up to be with you. I am glad that He is there talking to you about me. Help me remember that I don’t have to be afraid, because He will come back some day. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
