DOUBT - unsure of
CRUCIFIXION - a very cruel death, by nailing to a cross or stake
GUIDE - to lead the way
Jesus was talking with His disciples. He said, “I am going to die. But I will not stay dead. I will come back to life in three days.” But the disciples forgot Jesus’ promise.
After Jesus died, His disciples were hiding in a room with the door locked. They were afraid the soldiers would come and kill them like they did Jesus.
All of a sudden, Jesus was there in the room with them! He didn’t come through the door, it was locked. Jesus asked them for something to eat. He was not a ghost. We know ghosts don’t eat! He showed them His hands and feet where the nails had been. He said, “Stop doubting and believe.” When Jesus makes a promise, we can believe Him. Jesus has promised us that He will come back to earth some day. We should believe Him.

It is estimated that eight out of every ten messages children hear are negative. As teachers, we need to offer encouragement and positive reinforcement to help balance the scales. As you teach this lesson, emphasize the positive act of believing instead of the negative act of doubting.
God is faithful, and Jesus’ promises can always be counted on!
Mother eagles prepare their young for leaving the nest by having them practice flapping their wings. Often their first flight is to a nearby branch or rock. The flapping will continue until at last their wings were strong enough for them to soar.
Our beginner aged children are our little eaglets. We begin by teaching them to flap their wings of faith. Their first flights must be simple, like believing that God keeps His promises. As they mature, their wings of faith will grow stronger. One day we will witness them soaring in faith, and trusting God for their eternal salvation.
Before class, draw a happy face on the bottom of a paper plate, and a sad face on another plate. Staple the two plates together with the faces on opposite sides. Attach a large craft stick or paint stirrer to the bottom for a handle. As you tell the story, hold up the appropriate face where indicated. Ask the children to smile or frown along with the face on the paper plate.
