The Lesson

Inside the city of Jerusalem was a beautiful pool. An angel visited the pool from time to time. The angel would stir up the water. Then, the first person who stepped into the pool would be healed. Sick people came to the pool and waited for the angel. Blind and crippled people were brought to the pool. Everyone wanted to be the first person in the pool. They all wanted to be healed.

One Sabbath day after the Feast, Jesus came to this pool. Many sick people were waiting for the angel to stir the water. One poor man couldn’t walk. His legs didn’t work right. He hadn’t been able to walk for a long, long time. He had to lay on his bed roll.

Jesus saw this poor man lying there. He asked the man, “Would you like to get well?” The man told Jesus that he couldn’t get into the pool. He couldn’t walk, he would have to crawl. When the angel stirred the water someone else always got there first!

Jesus can heal sick people. So, He told the man to pick up his bedroll and walk! At that very moment the man was healed! He stood up, rolled up his bed roll and began walking and jumping. Wow! It was a miracle! The man didn’t need to get into the water. All he had to do was believe and obey Jesus. His faith in Jesus made him well.

Preparation

A teacher is many things. It is your job, through colorful language and a passion for the
subject, to create curiosity in the students. You make secrets unfold as belief in God grows and behavioral changes are made. Your success as a teacher will be determined by how you prepare, the time you spend in prayer for your class and for each individual student, and what you do in class. Teachers who do things right are efficient. And teachers who do things right over and over again, consistently are effective.

When the children have reached their comfort level, transition from playing to hearing
with this little rhyme: Let’s join hands and march around. When the lesson begins we can’t make a sound. All eyes on the teacher, all ears tuned to listen. It’s time to sit down and hear what Jesus has given. (Seat the children on the floor around an empty kiddie pool.)
