CREEK - a small stream of water
ROAM - to wander away
SHEPHERD - a person who looks after sheep
One day Jesus told a story about a Little Lost Lamb. There were many sheep on the hillside. One little lamb wandered away from the other sheep. But, soon the little lamb was lost. He began to cry, “Baa, Baa.”
The shepherd’s job was to take care of the sheep. He knew that the Little Lost Lamb was in trouble. A wild animal might catch him. Or, he might fall and hurt himself. The lamb was too little to find his way home alone. So, the shepherd went looking for the Little Lost Lamb. The shepherd walked up one hill and down another – tromp, tromp, tromp. Could the lamb be hiding behind a tree? The shepherd looked. No, he wasn’t there. Could he be behind that big rock? No, not there!
The shepherd didn’t give up. He went up another hill – tromp, tromp, tromp. He splashed through a little creek – splish, splash. At last he saw the little lamb. The shepherd was happy. He picked up the lamb and carried him home. The shepherd called his friends. He told them he had found the Little Lost Lamb.
Jesus is your shepherd. You are His sheep. He cares for you when you are home and when you are asleep. He wants to keep you close to Him. When you are lost He will bring you home again. That makes Him happy! Doesn’t that make you happy too?

Little preschool minds are hungry for answers. Look upon their “whys” as an opportunity and not an interruption. They need lots of input from many people. As their teacher, you offer a very valuable source of answers for their inquisitive minds.
Beginners are sensory learners who need many things to see, taste, touch, and feel. These little tots are also roaming learners who only have the ability to focus on one aspect of a situation at a time. You can help them stay focused with visuals, individual and class participation, and lots of action.
As you tell the story, have the children follow your actions and repeat the sounds. Before you come to class, enlarge and photocopy the sheep patterns on white construction paper (the patterns can be found on the pattern page in the center of this book). Back with sand paper strips or double stick tape to help them adhere to the flannel board. Cotton balls can be glued to the sheep if desired.
