BLIND - unable to see
MIRACLE - something that only God can do.
Close your eyes tightly. What can you see? Everything is dark. You can’t see anything. This is what it would be like if you were blind. You couldn’t see your mommy and daddy. It would be hard to find your way around. You would probably bump into things when you walked. You wouldn’t even know what color Barney was!
God is good to us. He gave us eyes so that we can see. But not everyone can see. Some people are blind. We shouldn’t laugh at people who can’t see. We should pray for them and help them when they need it.
One day two blind men were following Jesus. He had just brought a little dead girl back to life. It was a miracle! Jesus can do things that only God can do. The two blind men knew about Jesus’ power. They called out, “Jesus, please heal us. We want to see.” Jesus asked the men, “Do you believe I can make you see?” The men said they believed. Then Jesus touched their eyes. Guess what happened? They could see! They were so happy that they told everyone what Jesus did.
Do you believe Jesus? You can show Him you believe by doing what He tells you. When you obey Mommy and Daddy you show that you believe Jesus. He is happy when you believe Him.

“When exploring God’s power, children will naturally want to know how big God is. How do you measure God? Children this age are still thinking about spiritual beings in physical terms. God is spirit, and spirit is indefinable in our limited, human language. . . Rely on examples of God’s power that are big and impressive. . . Reawaken your own childlike sense of wonder, and your learners will get caught up in your excitement” (Teaching on Target by Dr. Robert and Jane Choun).
Before you come to class, make a hand puppet out of a tan-colored sock. Use the oval pattern to make the mouth. Trace and cut one oval from a piece of red or pink tag board. Fold it in half. Put the sock on your hand so your fingers are in the toe part and your thumb is in the heel. Glue the tag board between your thumb and fingers (see diagram on the pattern page in the center of this book). Cut the feet out of tan felt and sew to the sides of the sock. Use a black marker pen to draw a nose. Introduce the children to Morton the Mole. He will help you tell today’s story. Point out the fact that he has no eyes – he cannot see. Explain that moles live under the ground. They dig tunnels and live their whole life in the dark.
Allow each child to answer a question, using the puppet to talk for them. For large classes, add additional questions from the lesson or repeat the questions listed.
1. Why was it so important that these blind men believed Jesus?
2. Why is Jesus so good to us?
3. Who gives us every gift that we have?
4. Who gives us eyes to see?

Thank you, Heavenly Father, that I can see. You love me so much that you gave me eyes. Help me to always believe you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
