ACORN - a nut that grows on an oak tree
WORRY - to be anxious or fearful, troubled
Jasper the blue jay has beautiful blue feathers. He builds his nest high in a tree. He doesn’t worry about what he will eat. God made lots of berries for him to eat. In the winter Jasper doesn’t have to wear a coat. His blue feathers keep him warm and dry.
Sally the squirrel doesn’t worry about keeping warm, either. She is dressed in a warm fur coat. Sally picks up acorns that fall from the trees. She hides them so she will have food to eat in the winter. God takes care of all of His animals and birds. They don’t have to worry.
God loves you even more than He loves the flowers, birds and squirrels. He wants you to know that He will take care of you, too. You don’t have to worry about what you will wear. God will make sure you have warm clothes. You don’t have to worry about having enough to eat. God will make sure you are fed. He gives you these things because He loves you.
How can you show God that you love Him? You can’t give God food to eat. He doesn’t need you to give Him clothes to wear. He wants you to obey Him! Do what He tells you to do. Say “Thank you” for all the things He gives you. Pray at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. Do what Mommy and Daddy tell you to do. And, ask your friends to come to Sabbath School with you.
God shows you He loves you by giving you everything you need. You can show God that you love Him by doing what He says. He will take care of you. Don’t worry!

Most children this age can develop a positive image of their Heavenly Father from the examples given in nature. God provided everything that was needed. He gave the birds feathers to keep them dry and to help them fly. He gave fur coats to the animals for warmth and provided food for them to eat. Even the flowers of the fields are arrayed in beauty. He gave them sunshine and rain to help them grow. Matthew 6:30, 34 states, “If that is how God dresses the wild grass, won’t he dress you even better? . . . But put God’s kingdom first. Do what he wants you to do. Then all of those things will be given to you. So don’t worry about tomorrow” (NIrV). Comparing how God provides for nature to how He provides for them will help the children realize that God loves them. He doesn’t want them to worry.
Before you come to class, cut out colorful pictures of the following from magazines or greeting cards: flowers, birds, animals, food, a child who is clothed. Place a strip of doublestick tape or glue sandpaper strips on the back of each picture so they will adhere to your flannel board.
Enlarge and color the pictures of Jasper blue jay and Sally squirrel (the patterns can be found on the pattern page in the center of this book). Cut them out and back them with tape or sandpaper strips. Place them on the flannel board as you talk about them.
1. Where does Jasper the blue jay live? Who made the trees?
2. Who gave Sally the squirrel her fur coat? Where does she get her food?
3. Who does God love even more than the birds and animals?
4. How does God show you that He loves you?
5. What can you do to show God that you love Him?
6. Why does God tell you not to worry?

Dear Father, Thank you for loving the birds, squirrels, and animals. Thank you for dressing them in beautiful feathers and fur coats to keep them warm. And, thank you for loving me even more than the flowers, birds, and animals. Help me show I love you by doing what you say. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
